ABOUT THE ART

Obey is a clothing company founded in 2001 on the art, design and ideals of Shepard Fairey as an extension of his artistic and expressive activity. Starting with a sticker created in 1989, which became a real global street art campaign, Obey took and still takes inspiration from the counterculture of punk rock and skateboarding mixed with popular culture and biting sarcasm.

The brand is well known for interpreting social and political provocations in its product designs, and its founder describes the company as producing dissent.

Obey incorporates graphics that are commonly perceived as controversial or anti-establishment-oriented into its products by producing products that artistically depict political controversy, often using provocative imagery that the media or society generally associate with controversial and contradictory political and social topics.
