ABOUT THE ART

The OBEY Giant Attacks Active Santa Monica.

OBEY Shepard Fairey as he invades Active of Santa Monica to introduce his Limited Box Set, sign a few autographs and spin a few records on Thursday, September 21.

Shepard Fairey, aka Dj Diabetic, the world renowned artist and visionary behind OBEY, is going to be coming to Santa Monica Active where the Limited Edition Box Set will be released on Thursday, September 21st, 2006. The Box Set includes: a skateboard deck, t-shirt, hat and poster that you can get signed by Shepard himself from 6-8pm. Fairey will also be spinning records in store from 8-10pm.

OBEY and Active were both founded circa 1989 and the collaboration celebrates the great relationship between the two companies. Marketing Guru Chris Broders at OBEY states, “OBEY is honored to announce a limited-edition box set in conjunction with Active for the opening of their latest store in Santa Monica. Having grown up on skateboarding and street wear, the final tie of both companies, having been established in 1989 made this a perfect fit."

For the project, OBEY chose early cult classic skate graphics, but put a modern day spin on them, giving a nod to the resurgence of today’s street wear phenomenon. 100 pieces of this set will be offered at the Santa Monica Active location on the night of the 21st of September.
