His celebrated Jagged Tears series explores the emotional complexities behind familiar faces, reimagining legendary figures through a vibrant combination of street-art techniques, abstract patterns and fragmented portraiture.
Created in 2022, Queen of Hearts expands upon Gagnon's Jagged Tears aesthetic with a striking portrait of a glamorous female pop-culture icon, framed within the familiar imagery of a playing card's Queen of Hearts. The Pink variant combines a dramatic black halftone portrait with vibrant layers of turquoise, pink, orange and yellow, incorporating intricate stencil patterns, spray-painted textures and expressive splatters. The juxtaposition of classic Hollywood glamour, contemporary graffiti and playing-card symbolism creates a visually captivating composition that explores themes of beauty, celebrity, vulnerability and the emotional complexity beneath the public persona.
Produced as an extremely limited edition of only 10, Queen of Hearts is a two-color, hand-pulled screen print over stenciled spray paint on heavyweight 320gsm fine art paper with naturally deckled edges. Individually hand-finished by Gagnon using spray paint, each impression incorporates unique elements of the artist's creative process. This example is hand-signed, dated, embossed and numbered 2/10, and includes an original, artist-issued, hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity. A particularly scarce and colorful example of Gagnon's evolving Jagged Tears series, blending traditional printmaking with the spontaneity of contemporary street art.
