ABOUT THE ART
American street artist René Gagnon is known for his powerful fusion of graffiti, stencil art and contemporary Pop Art, often using familiar imagery and striking visual contrasts to explore themes of love, innocence, violence and the complexities of human emotion. Drawing inspiration from urban street culture and traditional stencil techniques, Gagnon's work combines bold graphic simplicity with thought-provoking narratives, creating imagery that is simultaneously playful, provocative and emotionally charged.
Created in 2014, Heart Breaker presents the silhouette of a young girl in a flowing dress, dramatically wielding two handguns against the backdrop of a large, fractured red heart. The composition juxtaposes childhood innocence with aggression and heartbreak, transforming a seemingly delicate figure into an unexpected symbol of defiance and emotional turmoil. Rendered in stark black against a softly textured background, the image's shattered heart and expressive spray-painted details reinforce the work's underlying themes of vulnerability, betrayal and rebellion.
