ARTIST BIO
Saki Masumoto, who works under the name Ozabu, is renowned for monochromatic drawings of young, nymph-like women at one with the natural world. Mixing realism and fantasy, her figurative works create a personal folklore inspired by Japanese mythologies and visual traditions like manga.
They have garnered Ozabu a vast online fanbase with more than 257,000 followers on Instagram. Self-taught, Ozabu uses graphite on paper to create meticulously rendered portraits that register as both dramatic and delicate. Her ethereal figures—which evoke ghosts or spirits—are empowered in their isolation; they loll amid plants, birds, insects, and other creatures that seem like extensions of the human body.
