ABOUT THE ART

"These hand painted multiples were created using discarded wood panels that I found while scavenging through the remains of Detroit's infamous Eastown Theatre. The theatre opened in 1930 and was converted from a movie theatre to a rock venue in the late 1960s and had some of rock and roll's finest acts from Detroit's MC5, the Stooges and Alice Cooper to national mainstay acts like The Doors, Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead.

Music is a huge inspiration in my work and this series is a both a homage to Detroit's history, as well as a continuative thought that out of the remains of our past, new ideas and inspiration can grow. Each multiple, featuring the iconic Spoiled Rotten balloon, is a completely unique piece of repurposed wood with hand-pulled screen printing and paint splatters." - Meggs
