ARTIST BIO
LinkOne is a street artist, designer, and filmmaker from Johannesburg, South Africa with two decades of experience and has a highly prized national reputation. He is one of the last to catch the first generation of graffiti artists' epoch in its multifaceted nature.
LinkOne started as an "outlaw" on his journey by bombing trains as an adolescent. He is one of the most pivotal street artists from the biggest township in South Africa and member of SEC/ SECAM (Street Expressed Creative Art Movement) which is the largest Hip-hop collective in South Africa. SECAM encompasses break-dancers, graffiti art, DJs, MCs, and Poets.
Born and raised in the historical township of Soweto in the 80s, Wandile became introduced to the arts at a very young age. He was exposed to the great amount of protest art strewn around the city whether it be posters or paintings done in protest of the existing state of affairs involving economic and class relations.
He studied anthropology at the University of Johannesburg and acquired a deeper understanding of the knowledge of humanity, culture, and evolution. This led him to his primary focus on present times through visual anthropological studies.
Link One is one of the only three graffiti artists that paints 3-dimensional masterpieces in South Africa. While using this medium, he explores visual anthropology through the signs and symbols that have carved humanity and cultures for millennia.
Symbols are the medium that shape, keep the same, and change cultures and societies. He takes these symbols, transforms them into 3D paintings, and seeks to find (as evolving as they are) where and how next they evolve, which thus changes cultures and societies in essence. Through futurism, Wandile Mdaki is one who explores space and time through a mixture of graffiti and visual anthropology expressed through his artwork.
