ABOUT THE ART
Contemporary American artist Jeff Gillette is internationally recognized for his provocative fusion of pop culture, cartoon imagery and dystopian urban landscapes. Best known for his celebrated Dismayland series, which reimagines familiar animated characters against scenes of poverty, decay and environmental destruction, Gillette brings a distinctly irreverent perspective to contemporary art. His work frequently challenges the commercialization of popular culture while exploring the contrast between childhood nostalgia and the harsher realities of modern society.
Angry Donald (2026) captures the unmistakable face of Disney's Donald Duck in a bold, expressive composition that transforms the beloved cartoon character into a mischievous street-art portrait. Rendered in vivid orange, white and black, Donald's exaggerated expression, squinting eyes and extended tongue give the character a rebellious, almost mocking personality. Loose spray-painted outlines, energetic brushstrokes and minimal background details emphasize the spontaneous, graffiti-inspired aesthetic, while the recycled cardboard surface reinforces Gillette's affinity for unconventional materials and his playful subversion of familiar commercial imagery.
Created in 2026, this intimate one-of-a-kind original artwork (#1/1) was hand-painted in acrylic and black spray paint on a recycled white cardboard slab, measuring approximately 9 x 6.75 inches. The reverse is hand-signed and titled by Jeff Gillette and features the artist's distinctive Dismay stencil stamp, further documenting its origins. Accompanied by a Signari Gallery Certificate of Authenticity, Angry Donald offers collectors an accessible, original example of Gillette's distinctive approach to cartoon iconography, pop-culture satire and contemporary street art.
