ABOUT THE ART

American street artist René Gagnon is celebrated for his distinctive fusion of graffiti, stencil art and contemporary Pop Art, frequently reimagining familiar cultural imagery through the rebellious lens of urban street culture. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Andy Warhol and the evolution of graffiti as a legitimate art form, Gagnon's work bridges the worlds of traditional fine art and street-level expression with bold graphics, clever visual commentary and an unmistakable sense of humor.

Originally conceived in 2006, Gagnon's Graffiti Soup pays homage to Andy Warhol's iconic 1962 Campbell's Soup Cans, replacing the familiar soup tins with graffiti spray paint cans while preserving the instantly recognizable red-and-white Campbell's branding. Released in 2016 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original design, this special edition features ten spray cans arranged in a symmetrical grid, cleverly connecting Warhol's exploration of mass production and consumer culture with graffiti's essential creative tool. The composition serves as both a tribute to the Pop Art pioneer and a celebration of the enduring relationship between street art and contemporary visual culture.

Produced as a limited edition of only 100, this four-color, hand-pulled screen print was executed on heavyweight 320gsm fine art paper with naturally deckled edges, emphasizing the craftsmanship and tactile qualities of traditional printmaking. Hand-signed, numbered and dated by Gagnon in pencil, this example is numbered 79/100 and includes an original, artist-issued, hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity. A particularly fitting tribute to two influential artistic movements, Graffiti Soup celebrates the shared visual language of Pop Art and graffiti through one of Gagnon's most recognizable designs.
