ABOUT THE ART
When the extraordinary imagination of acclaimed contemporary artist James Jean meets the legendary fantasy universe of Masters of the Universe, the result is an entirely new interpretation of two of pop culture's most beloved characters.
Renowned for his intricate compositions, dreamlike imagery and masterful fusion of Eastern and Western artistic traditions, James Jean has established himself as one of the most distinctive visual artists of his generation. His work frequently explores the relationship between nature, mythology, transformation and the human imagination, creating elaborate worlds where beauty and fantasy intertwine.
Released in 2026 through an exclusive collaboration with Mattel Creations, He-Man and Battle Cat reimagines the heroic defenders of Eternia through Jean's unmistakable artistic vision. Inspired in part by Leonardo da Vinci's legendary Battle of Anghiari, the composition transforms the familiar warrior and his fearless feline companion into an elaborate celebration of nature, mythology and heroic symbolism.
Rather than the traditional battle armor associated with Masters of the Universe, Jean envelops both characters in an extraordinary arrangement of jade-toned floral forms, delicate blossoms and ornate golden details. The flowing botanical designs transform He-Man's armor, weapons and Battle Cat's elaborate saddle into an interconnected sculptural composition, symbolizing harmony, peace, goodness and light.
The highly detailed figures feature extensive articulation, with 14 points of articulation for He-Man and 12 for Battle Cat, allowing collectors to recreate dynamic poses while appreciating the intricate sculptural craftsmanship. He-Man is accompanied by interchangeable hands, a reimagined Sword of Power, shield and battle axe, all incorporating Jean's distinctive aesthetic.
The presentation is equally impressive. Housed in a specially designed window-box display featuring a mirrored structure, layered original artwork and hidden visual details, the set extends Jean's artistic vision beyond the figures themselves, creating a complete collectible experience.
Designed as the companion to Jean's equally elaborate 'Skeletor and Panthor' set, the two releases explore the timeless relationship between good and evil, light and darkness, presenting opposing forces through a unified artistic language.
More than a traditional action figure release, He-Man and Battle Cat represents a remarkable intersection of contemporary fine art, classical artistic inspiration, fantasy storytelling and designer collectible culture. It offers collectors an opportunity to experience the iconic world of Masters of the Universe through the extraordinary imagination of James Jean.
