ABOUT THE ART
When the extraordinary imagination of acclaimed contemporary artist James Jean meets the legendary fantasy universe of Masters of the Universe, even Eternia's most notorious villain becomes something entirely unexpected.
Renowned for his intricate compositions, dreamlike imagery and masterful fusion of Eastern and Western artistic traditions, James Jean has established himself as one of the most distinctive visual artists of his generation. His work frequently explores themes of mythology, transformation, nature and the eternal struggle between opposing forces, creating elaborate worlds where beauty and darkness coexist.
Released in 2026 through an exclusive collaboration with Mattel Creations, Skeletor and Panthor reimagines the infamous villain and his fearsome feline companion through Jean's unmistakable artistic vision. Inspired in part by Leonardo da Vinci's legendary Battle of Anghiari, the composition transforms the familiar characters into a dramatic sculptural exploration of power, conflict and raw emotion.
In striking contrast to the delicate jade-colored floral arrangements of the companion He-Man and Battle Cat release, Jean envelops Skeletor and Panthor in an extraordinary network of deep crimson, coral-inspired formations. The twisting, branching structures extend across Skeletor's armor, weapons and Panthor's elaborate saddle and helmet, creating an almost living organism that appears to consume and transform both figures.
The intense red coloration evokes blood, anger, aggression and primal energy, while the intricate coral-like forms blur the boundaries between natural growth and supernatural power. Accented with brilliant gold details, the elaborate designs transform Eternia's familiar villains into a visually arresting interpretation of darkness and destruction.
The highly detailed figures feature extensive articulation, with 14 points of articulation for Skeletor and 12 for Panthor, allowing collectors to create dynamic poses while appreciating the remarkable sculptural craftsmanship. Skeletor is accompanied by interchangeable hands, a dramatically reimagined Havoc Staff and sword, all incorporating Jean's distinctive aesthetic.
The presentation is equally impressive. Housed in a specially designed window-box display featuring a mirrored structure, layered James Jean artwork and hidden visual details, the packaging extends the artist's creative vision beyond the figures themselves, creating a complete collectible experience.
Designed as the companion to Jean's equally elaborate 'He-Man and Battle Cat' set, the two releases explore the timeless relationship between good and evil, light and darkness, harmony and chaos. Together, they present opposing forces through a unified artistic language, transforming the classic Masters of the Universe rivalry into a contemporary interpretation of mythology and the natural world.
More than a traditional action figure release, Skeletor and Panthor represents an extraordinary intersection of contemporary fine art, classical artistic inspiration, fantasy storytelling and designer collectible culture. It offers collectors an opportunity to experience the darker side of Eternia through the remarkable imagination of James Jean.
