ABOUT THE ART

Imbue’s print set reimagines traditional religious portraiture through his signature digital-era iconography. Each piece begins with a classical engraving of a Christian saint—imagery commonly found in 17th–18th century devotional prints—rendered in warm sepia tones that closely echo the etching techniques of the Old Masters. Onto these serene, centuries-old figures, Imbue overlays the universally recognizable “loading” symbol, interrupting their sacred heart with a spinning, unfinished moment frozen in time.

By inserting this contemporary emblem of technological limbo into historical iconography, Imbue creates a sharp, witty commentary on faith, waiting, and the modern condition. The loading wheel becomes both a halo and a void—suggesting suspended revelation, interrupted devotion, or perhaps the endless buffering of human belief in a hyper-digital world. The saints’ contemplative expressions clash with the glitch-like intrusion, turning a once straightforward religious message into a layered metaphor.

This series fits squarely within Imbue’s ongoing exploration of how digital symbols reshape cultural meaning. Much like his works that remix propaganda, luxury branding, or sacred objects, these prints hold a mirror to our era: an age where the divine, the historical, and the deeply human are continually reframed through screens, signals, and the slow spin of a wheel that never quite resolves.
