ABOUT THE ART

Imbue is a contemporary British artist known for his provocative, detail-driven work that reimagines familiar cultural and religious symbols through a bold, often subversive lens. Drawing from street art, pop culture, and consumer iconography, his work challenges viewers to reconsider the meaning behind everyday imagery. By fusing sacred forms with modern materials and references, Imbue creates pieces that are both visually striking and conceptually layered—blurring the line between reverence and critique.

Originally introduced in the mid-2010s, 'Drug Lord' is one of Imbue’s most recognizable series. The sculpture takes the form of a traditional Catholic cross, re-contextualized with brightly colored pharmaceutical capsules encased behind clear panels. This juxtaposition of religion and medication speaks to contemporary dependencies—exploring themes of faith, consumerism, addiction, and society’s shifting sources of salvation. Over time, the series has evolved into refined, precision-made objects, often released in limited editions and multiple variations.

In its latest evolution, the 'Drug Lord' series has expanded into collectible formats, including open-edition mini sculptures produced in a range of colorways. The blind box format adds an element of chance and collectibility, reinforcing the work’s commentary on consumption and desire while engaging directly with contemporary art toy culture.

Whether encountered as a singular statement piece or as part of a larger set of variations,  'Drug Lord' remains a powerful example of Imbue’s ability to transform iconic imagery into thought-provoking, modern artifacts.
