ABOUT THE ART
Rode Vlinder in Vuur (2020), translating to Red Butterfly in Fire, is a captivating work by Dutch contemporary artist Handiedan, celebrated for her intricate fusion of vintage pin-up imagery, surrealism, ornate symbolism, and elaborate digital collage. Featuring two intertwined female figures surrounded by fiery red and gold ornamentation, the composition explores themes of femininity, duality, transformation, and desire. Handiedan's distinctive visual language combines classical beauty with layered geometric forms, decorative patterns, and an almost mystical sense of movement.
This striking limited-edition giclée print was produced on heavyweight 315gsm Etching Cotton Rag fine art paper and incorporates augmented reality (AR) technology, introducing an interactive digital dimension to the physical artwork. Issued in an edition of just 77, this example is numbered #11/77, hand-signed, numbered, and dated by the artist in gold, and features an embossed Handiedan logo. Adding to its individual character and provenance, the print is also personally inscribed to Brian by the artist, distinguishing it from standard examples within the edition.
Professionally custom-framed in an elaborate Gothic-style black hardwood frame with acid-free matting and UV-protective Plexiglas, the presentation beautifully complements the artwork's rich colors, intricate detailing, and dramatic atmosphere. Measuring approximately 28 × 24 inches framed, this impressive piece offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a scarce, personally inscribed example of Handiedan's distinctive contemporary art, combining traditional fine art printmaking with modern interactive technology.
