ABOUT THE ART
British contemporary artist Damien Hirst is one of the most influential and provocative figures of his generation, internationally celebrated for his exploration of art, mortality, consumer culture and the relationship between artistic value and commercial exchange. His iconic Spot Paintings, featuring meticulously arranged circles of vibrant color, have become among the most recognizable images in contemporary art, embodying his fascination with repetition, systems and the seemingly infinite possibilities of color.
Launched in 2021, The Currency was an ambitious artistic experiment that challenged traditional concepts of ownership, authenticity and value in the rapidly evolving world of digital art. The project consisted of 10,000 unique, hand-painted works on paper, each corresponding to an NFT, with collectors ultimately required to choose between retaining the physical artwork or its digital counterpart. The groundbreaking project culminated in an exhibition at London's Newport Street Gallery from September 23 through October 30, 2022, where Hirst publicly destroyed thousands of unclaimed physical works, transforming the relationship between tangible and digital art into a provocative statement about value, permanence and the future of collecting.
Published by HENI, this striking Blue variant exhibition poster celebrates The Currency through Hirst's signature multicolored spot imagery, creating a vibrant composition of seemingly endless color combinations. Produced as a large-format offset lithograph on premium 250gsm silk poster paper, the poster captures the playful visual energy of the original artworks while commemorating one of the artist's most talked-about contemporary projects. Originally offered as an open edition and now sold out, this example is preserved in excellent, new condition and represents a colorful piece of contemporary art history.
