ABOUT THE ART
Few images are as instantly recognizable in the history of contemporary art as Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. First introduced in 1962, Warhol's fascination with everyday consumer products helped redefine the boundaries between commercial imagery and fine art, establishing the Campbell's soup can as one of the defining symbols of the Pop Art movement.
That same year, Warhol created '100 Cans', a monumental painting featuring one hundred Campbell's soup cans arranged in a repetitive grid. The work exemplified his exploration of mass production, consumer culture and the visual power of repetition, transforming an ordinary supermarket staple into an enduring artistic icon.
In 1998, Block China, in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, introduced a special collection of fine porcelain dinnerware celebrating Warhol's celebrated imagery. This original '100 Cans' salad plate features a colorful, repeating arrangement of Campbell's soup cans around its perimeter, complemented by Warhol's reproduced signature. Blending fine china craftsmanship with one of the most influential artistic movements of the twentieth century, the collection transformed functional tableware into collectible Pop Art.
Professionally float-framed in a custom shadow box with UV-resistant acrylic and acid-free backing, this discontinued edition is presented as a distinctive wall-mounted art object, celebrating Warhol's enduring influence on art, design and popular culture.
