ABOUT THE ART
"'Taste the Rainbow' is a playful depiction of the shark in a not-so-natural habitat. Shark lineage is ancient, which shows us the importance of their presence in a healthy, bio-diverse ecosystem. Pop-culture and media representation has portrayed this apex predator in a villainous light, likely in part due to their mystique but needless to say the excess of sharp teeth.
However, the research and data support a different perspective, one that I hope my painting can use in an attempt to shed this unsavory facade and encourage curiosity, engagement and perhaps just a light heart when looking at these watery giants. Inspiration for the piece includes reference to the 'absurd and wonderful' Progress Shark."
