ARTIST BIO

FAKE, born Manuel Seikritt in 1980 in Amsterdam, is a Dutch street artist known for his vibrant stencil work and clever social commentary. Growing up in a grey, industrial environment, he developed a desire to bring color and wit into the urban landscape. Entirely self-taught, FAKE began experimenting with graffiti and stencils in the early 2000s, discovering that stenciling allowed him to create bold, repeatable images with precision and speed. This approach became central to his identity as an artist, helping him communicate his ideas in a direct yet playful way.

He emerged on the international street art scene around 2005 and quickly gained recognition for his crisp lines, vivid palettes, and thought-provoking compositions. FAKE’s art has appeared in major cities worldwide — including New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Los Angeles — each piece blending humor and critique. His most iconic work, Love Hurts, features a heart-shaped balloon pierced by a dagger, symbolizing both the beauty and pain of love. Like much of his art, it captures universal emotions through instantly recognizable imagery, making his work accessible yet emotionally charged.

FAKE’s use of stencils reflects his dedication to clarity and efficiency, but it also emphasizes his ability to balance technical precision with conceptual depth. His works often feature pop culture references or archetypal characters twisted with irony or satire, inviting viewers to rethink what they see every day. Despite his lighthearted tone, FAKE’s art frequently comments on social and political issues, from consumerism to human connection, without losing its visual charm.

As his reputation grew, FAKE began expanding his medium beyond street walls to canvas, wood, and glass, while maintaining his roots in public art. His exhibitions across Europe, North America, and Asia have further solidified his status as a leading figure in the contemporary urban art movement. Though his works are now found in galleries and private collections, FAKE remains committed to keeping his art accessible to all — a reflection of his belief that art should provoke, inspire, and bring beauty to everyday life.

Today, FAKE stands as one of the Netherlands’ most recognizable street artists, celebrated for blending the immediacy of graffiti with the refinement of fine art. His colorful, polished stencils bridge the gap between rebellion and elegance, humor and humanity — a testament to how street art can thrive both in the public sphere and within the global art market.
