'Heal Mary' by DS
Signari Gallery has commissioned London-based stencil graffiti artist DS (aka David Schmidt, the artist behind 'Miley's Smash Hits') to produce a very limited new skate deck.
COVID-19 has pushed us all to our limits. We partnered with stencil artist DS to create something that not only represents that struggle but also how, once politicized, it's made our return to normal that much more difficult. While in reality, taking care of each other should be all that matters.
DS's work includes contrasting imagery and subject matter. Mask wearing is now synonymous the COVID-19 pandemic but it's been used countless times before and this will certainly not be the last.

The Process

David Schmidt aka ‘DS’ is a US national, UK-bred urban artist, striving to create visually attractive, mentally engaging art piece statements.
The first stencils he painted were on the streets of East London in 2002, an area that has birthed some of the now ‘greats’ of the street art world. The stencils started off as crude black & white robots that not only struck a note with DS himself, but also caught the attention of many others.
Art has always been big enough to tame his hyperactive mind, creating a world of minute detailed figures. Inspired and bitten by the street art bug, it wasn’t long before he finished his art education and focused on stencil art. Contrasting imagery in art, a juxtaposition of old and new, angels and cherubs alongside art grenades, gas masks and spray paint cans spark conversations and movement in today’s society.
