ABOUT THE ART
Kate Moss, the 37-year-old supermodel has been left a surprise present by the infamous graffiti artist Banksy. It has been reported that while she is off on her honeymoon soaking up the shade on a luxury yacht in the Mediterranean, the artist has been given access to the Moss/Hince residence to produce a special work. This going to be a surprise for Kate, it is not known who authorised the commission, but inside sources have said that the work is in her bathroom and it has been valued at up to £200k.
“The graffiti artist has been painting the mural in Kate’s new mansion in Highgate, North London. He has been working, around the clock to spray the large piece in her bathroom and toilet. She’ll love it,” said a source. ”Kate likes British imagery with subjects like rock bands, William and Kate, and brands like Topshop and Burburry. She’s very London and very British, and Banksy is the ultimate symbol of Post Pop Britishness. The work will look incredible.”
One of Kate’s friends stated, “Kate loves Banksy’s work." She was renovating her bathroom and home spa when Banksy stepped in and produced the artwork. This is positively revolutionary. Kate has been one of the most reproduced images of her generation. Banksy immortalized her with a series of prints in the style of Warhol’s Marilyn. These prints sell for up to £80,000 a pop. The Moss/Hince’s have received gifts from other top artists including Jake and Dinos Chapman, Tracy Emin, and the sculpturer Marc Quinn. Quinn recently did a nude sculpture of the model fashioned in solid gold. This was exhibited at the British Museum and valued as several million.
Moss is definitely the two dimensional successor to Marilyn Monroe. She clearly holds the title of, ‘most recognizable face of her time’ by a long shot. A set of Banksy’s prints of Moss in the style of Warhol’s iconic Marilyn series recently sold in a Bonham’s Urban Art auction for a record sum. Other prominent artists who have depicted Moss include: Lucian Freud, Gary Hume ,Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Chuck Close, Julian Opie, Tracey Emin, Lisa Yuskavage, Stella Vine and Alex Katz. Moss has always been a first rate scene kid, a woman of her time, hanging out with Damien Hirst, palling around with Tracey Emin, and at one point was said to be romantically linked with Jake Chapman….Go Kate Go!
