Collection: Mark Davies

Mark Davies is a contemporary British artist, whose limited edition print work reflects his lifelong fascination with the art of telling stories. Taking inspiration from the dark fables of Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm, Davies draws on the Renaissance art of Piero Della Francesco and Giuseppe Acrimbolodo, and the surreal aesthetic of Salvador Dali, to create a singularly beautiful and intensely hypnotic series of prints.

In ‘Hey You Guuuys! (Goonies)’, Davies has powerfully captured the magic and the ambience of the classic 1980s adventure narrative. The print depicts The Inferno as it sets sail from the mouth of the cave. Fine mists rise from the ocean surface while twinkling lights play around splashing waterfalls, to create the mood of the moment.

With a sensitivity to light and colour, Davies’s print is reminiscent of the oil paintings of the great masters, deftly telling a story within a single, beautiful snapshot.
