ABOUT THE ART

In 'BFF' (2024), Hijack reimagines one of pop art’s most iconic visual languages through the lens of contemporary street culture. Drawing clear inspiration from Keith Haring’s bold, graphic figures and radiant heart motif, Hijack inserts his signature hooded figure into the composition—transforming a universal symbol of love and connection into something more complex and introspective. The masked character, rendered in a more realistic, sculptural style, appears to physically embrace the simplified figure, creating a striking tension between innocence and anonymity, warmth and detachment. The result is both playful and emotionally layered, bridging past and present in a single, highly recognizable image.

Hijack, a Los Angeles-based street artist, is known for blending classical art references, pop culture, and urban iconography into sharply executed stencil works and mixed-media editions. His recurring hooded figure—often faceless and deliberately ambiguous—acts as a stand-in for modern identity, reflecting themes of isolation, consumer culture, and the search for connection in an increasingly mediated world. By juxtaposing this figure against familiar imagery, Hijack creates works that are immediately accessible while inviting deeper interpretation.

With 'BFF', Hijack continues his exploration of appropriation and reinterpretation, placing himself in direct dialogue with art history while maintaining a distinctly contemporary voice. The piece resonates as both homage and commentary—celebrating the simplicity of human connection while questioning how it evolves in a modern, often disconnected society. As a 2024 edition, it stands as a strong example of Hijack’s evolving practice and his growing presence within the global street and pop art scene.
