ABOUT THE ART
Australian street art couple Dabs Myla’s new Cosmic Cat vinyl art toy carries their whimsical aesthetic and strong sense of character. Their first vinyl toy in some time, the playful figure is set to debut at the Beyond the Streets virtual event on NTWRK. Standing 12″ tall, the spacey black cat has an animated face with a blue mouth and yellow eyes and comes in a hat-box style package.
Dabs is a prolific illustrator and graffiti artist who spent his teenage years growing up in Melbourne in the Early ‘90s. The graffiti scene influenced him greatly in his style and technique. These days Dabs’ characters come to life in more contextualized environments than ever before, whether they are painted on walls in the streets, or on canvases for a gallery setting. Myla was also raised in Melbourne where she was obsessed with detailed painting and drawing from an early age. Throughout her life Myla has continued to develop her artistic ways, and now concentrates on detailed cities and landscapes. Three years ago, along with Dabs, they combined forces to solely collaborate on their works together.
A lot of the time when we explain to people what we do and how we work they say... "Man..you work together, and you are a couple! I'd end up killing my girlfriend/boyfriend if we collaborated on everything we did!" I guess we are pretty lucky...two peas in a pod! Two crazy, work-a-holic, mad dorks in a pod! After years of living, painting walls and working together we have only become closer, stronger and even more in sync. Every day we wake up, paint all day..and keep each other entertained with constant chatter and stupid jokes. Who could ask for more out of life!! We are both originally from Melbourne Australia, and have been living and working in LA for the past 2 years, soaking up the sun and chaos that surrounds us.
