ABOUT THE ART
Known for his stark black and white paintings depicting man’s violent struggles (physical and symbolic) against one another, Cleon Peterson’s work is striking, graphic and impactful. For the Beyond the Streets 2021 virtual event hosted by NTWRK, Peterson is set to release three new limited-edition sculptures.
The World on Fire resin sculpture is Peterson’s take on the classic sculptures of the greek titan Atlas, who was cursed to support Earth on his mighty shoulders. The matte black sculpture features one of Peterson’s familiar characters with a small head and a powerful chest holding up a distressed Earth. A drop (perhaps of blood or oil or perhaps a tear) can be seen on the front while the rear top portion is engulfed in flames.
